About HBCUs

Historically Black Colleges and Universities “HBCUs” are colleges and universities founded after the Civil War to provide educational opportunities to free men and women of color who otherwise would not have them.

There are one hundred and four such institutions located throughout the country; most of which are located in the southern region of the United States. Since their inception, HBCUs have graduated some of the most important figures in American history from a wide range of fields.
